Coastal U13 G vs Coquitlam Metro-Ford – July 11, 2009 PDF  | Print |  E-mail

After dropping five points in two games Coastal’s goal of Florida in November was at real risk! The weather was warm at the start in the sun, but a stiff breeze was blowing across the pitch. Coastal made much of the initial running with Maddie’s and Ashley j combining for Ravneet to send in a long range effort on the two minute mark – this was comfortably gathered and cleared. Coquitlam forced a corner on the three minute mark and Ashley J provided the clearance. Coastal were winning the private battles as the clouds moved in the temperature dropped! On the sixteen minute mark Maddie played a long ball for Janna – her shot from the top of the box was just wide to the left. Coastal continued to exert pressure with Sophie missing high from Janna’s cross on the twenty-third minute. A couple of minutes later Coastal were awarded a free kick at the top of the box – Maddie’s drive was too high – goal kick. Coastal continued to work hard and had a number of attempts as the half wound down and the half finished up scoreless.

The wind had picked up and it was cold – most parents scurried to their cars at the break looking for jackets or whatever to keep the cold at bay. Again Coastal pressured with the Coquitlam defence working hard to contain the Coastal attack. On the fourteen minute mark Ravneet and Janna combined to feed Sophie whose shot was well saved but generated a corner. On the nineteen minute mark Janna and Ashley J combined down the right – Sophie gathered Ashley’s cross and beat the keeper with her shot – Coastal 1 – 0 Coquitlam.

A minute later and Sophie came close to scoring again missing left with her header attempt from Ravneet’s cross. Ashley C did well on the twenty-sixth minute to keep Coquitlam out. Coastal were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box – Sophie’s strike was just too high. With time running down Coquitlam worked hard to level the score, but the Coastal defence held.

Players and parents alike were glad of the final whistle and quickly hurried off for the warmth of cars and trucks – final score Coastal 1 – 0 Coquitlam.
