Coastal U13 G @ Surrey – July 9, 2009 PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Unlike the Abbotsford game – the skies were clear and the temp much warmer. Coastal started well with Ashley J creating space down the right, her cross was a little too deep and Surrey were able to clear. Surrey clearly looking for a better result than last time the two team met applied the early pressure and Joscelyn’s first action come on the two minute mark as she gathered a long range attempt. On the three minute mark Ravneet and Ashley J combined to force a corner but the girls were not able to finish. After the initial minutes the game settled into a mid field battle – Surrey with the wind behind them were able to clear more effectively and maintain pressure on the Coastal team. Surrey were also starting to win the one on one battles. Coastal were missing Maddie’s central command in the middle!

Coastal were generating attacks – Sarah, Ravneet, Sophie and Ashley J combined on the twelve minute mark to force a corner. Moments later Surrey were on the attack and forced a corner on the counter attack. On the fourteen minute mark Coastal were awarded a free kick – Kate took the kick, Sophie back headed the ball on and Surrey scrambled to clear for a throw in. Solid physical challenges in the midfield and Surrey looking dangerous on their attacks. Ravneet and Ashley J again combined on the sixteen minute mark to force a corner, again Surrey were able to clear. On the seventeen minute mark Surrey’s mid-field sent Sienna in on Joscelyn with a lovely through ball. Joscelyn came out to challenge and Sienna fired low to her left under Joscelyn’s dive to score in the corner – Coastal 0 – 1 Surrey.

One minute later and Beth Anne’s cover defence saved another one on one opportunity for Surrey with her cover tackle going out. Coastal were able to clear the following corner. On the nineteen minute mark Ashley J had a good run down the right and delivered a cross – Surrey’s keeper did well as Sophie came in hard on the challenge. On the twenty-three minute mark Surrey pumped a very high ball into the box – Joscelyn did well to take the ball high under pressure from the Surrey attack. Moments later Surrey were called for off-side. Surrey continue to look dangerous – especially on the counter attack. Surrey continued to press and Joscelyn was keep busy from long range shots and corners. With time in the half running down, Kate had to leave the field after a knock on her nose (broken) and Coastal were down to ten players as all of the players on the bench had already been on in that half. With the defence out of sorts Surrey had another attack and Sienna was half stopped, the ball was not cleared and Sienna was able to poke it home for a second goal as time expired – Coastal 0 – 2 Surrey.

Coastal started the second half with much more urgency (and the wind) – Ashley J producing a cross in front of the Surrey goal in the first minute. From Coastal’s pressure Surrey were able to again counter attack and Sienna ran onto a through ball around mid field, beat two defenders before sending a great shot high to the left of Kylee for her hat trick – Coastal 0 – 3 – Surrey.

Surrey continued to press and Kylee gathered the long range effort a minute later. On the ten minute mark Sienna again was a focus on the Surrey attack – this time drawing the defence and laying off for her team mate – who shot wide right. A minute later Coastal were on the attack with Gabbie and Janna working to force a corner. The corner was half cleared by Surrey and Gabbie’s shot drifted wide. Coastal were finally finding connections and the Surrey keep did well to save from Gabbie on the fourteen minute mark. On the seventeen minute mark Surrey sent another through ball for Sienna to chase and Kylee did well to come out of her box to clear. A minute later Coastal were awarded a free kick on the half way line. Janna challenged for the ball and ended up falling on top of the Surrey keeper. Surrey kept the pressure coming and Kylee did well on the twenty minute mark to save a high shot from the top of the box. Coastal were starting to really pressure now and the break finally came on the twenty-sixth minute - Gabbie had a good run down the left, her cross was half cleared and gathered by Ashley J who found Sophie in space who banged it home – Coastal 1 – 3 Surrey.

On the thirty minute mark Surrey came close to putting the game away – a broken play in the Coastal box and Natalia’s shot missed wide right. With time running out Coastal continued to work hard and on the thirty-fourth minute Gabbie’s left foot volley was very well saved by the Surrey keeper. Aisha took the corner and Sophie drove home – Coastal 2 – 3 Surrey.

With time nearly out Ashley J sent a lobbed through ball for Janna to chase – the Surrey keeper was alert and came out of her box to clear – game over.
